National Green Corps
All efforts at environmental education would be fruitless unless they are based on a foundation of instilling environmental discipline. If we do not create some environmentally sound habits, it is useless to keep educating. We are answerable. We are answerable that we are answerable, not only to our future but also to our present.

When you have competing programs for the young school students and the schools, they will select whatever gives them most dividends. That is why we need to make a program attactive enough to generate demand. Today environmental activity is based on principle of charity. What we need to base it is on demand. We need to generate demand for environmental activity. We need to make it as attractive as NCC. NCC has PM, President, Governor, Defence Minister, Chief Minister and the total defence force interested in promoting it. We need to have the Forest Departments at National and State levels. The Pollution Control Boards at National and State levels promoting the National Green Corps program. Economic incentives, Employment incentives, uniforms, certificates, public recognition and public programs are all required for promoting an ethic of living in clean environment. Other wise all this will become a fad a distant dream.
